Celia Wade-Brown's Wellington Mayoral Campaign is officially launched!
Sam Manzana's drumming, Mere Boynton's waiata and Te Rakau's kapa haka added emotionally charged music to Celia's launch on July 1st.
The room at Turnbull House was packed out with a good cross-section of Wellingtonians.
Sue Kedgley introduced Celia and spoke warmly of their time together on Council and Celia's achievements in heritage protection, open space land purchases and her support for social housing, libraries and community centres.
Vanisa Dhiru, runner-up Young New Zealander of the Year, added her endorsement, emphasising Celia's genuine involvement with many community organisations.
Kent Duston explained that the incumbent's share of the first preference votes shrunk from 42% in 2004 to just under 35%. Not a ringing endorsement for business as usual! He added that Celia Wade-Brown has great prospects if there's a strong campaign.
Celia emphasised that "Decisions made over the next three years will shape Wellington for decades to come."
Celia's three key messages are promoting...
- good transport choices, especially light rail, walking and cycling,
- clean innovative technologies and
- local community support for neighbourhoods to become more resilient.
