Make your vote count

These last few days are critically important for deciding the Wellington results. Post back your papers by Wednesday or hand deliver to Council at 101 Wakefield Street. Voting is up a little from 2007 which should be good news for those wanting a change!

I urge you to use your STV  vote wisely and put 1, 2 and 3 against your favoured candidates. While all candidates are brave to be putting themselves forward, some have more skills to offer Wellington than others.

The mayoralty is unlikely to be decided on first preferences alone so make sure you consider voting for your top three candidates at least. With STV, at least half the preferences are needed to elect a mayor. Once a candidate has the fewest votes and drops out, any voter who has made only one choice for that candidate ceases to have any effect on the outcome of the election.

On the campaign trail I've been impressed with Jack Yan's friendliness, interest in people and quick responses so I suggest you consider his strengths and put him near the top of your mayoral list. I still want to be your first choice!

Mike Mellor, Andy Foster, Jack Yan, Leo the Lion, myself and Michael Fowler (not pictured) all had fun with Donna Scott's promotion of the Lions.
