Good transport choices for Wellington

tramTransport is always a defining issue in Wellington. We all want to get places without more traffic jams, stress and pollution.

Isn’t there a better solution than demolishing local homes to build more tunnels funnelling more one person per car commuters into Wellington, circling around looking for a car park?

I think there are better ideas for the coming decades, where fuel prices will be higher and carbon restrictions tighter.

Good choices for economic wellbeing

Marine life in Wellington harbourWe all want interesting, high-quality jobs for ourselves and our children, and I believe the Council has a key role in fostering the kind of business environment where this can happen. To help build a vibrant city we need to build vibrant businesses.

I have great ideas and support for expanding and enhancing our city's economy in the areas of business through technology and business forums, fair trade, and harnessing our natural marine energy as well as continuing support for the creative sector.

There’s a new worldwide trend for people to become more involved at a local level, and as Mayor I'll help foster better engagement with our communities.

The Council already makes grants, operates community centres and libraries and supports local festivals. There are very cost-effective ways of increasing people’s independence and involvement in their local communities, such as Community gardens and orchards, supported with a revitalised Wellington Community Net which has been under threat from the current administration. Growing, mending, and community potluck dinners are effective ways of reducing the costs of everyday living for families of all sizes.
